Description

A superb quality antique mahogany leather top military campaign pedestal desk. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1930’s.

It is extremely well made, with a useful and smart design. The mahogany has a lovely colour tone, there is high quality brass hardware throughout, including inset military brass handles, carry handles on the sides and corner pieces. There is a brass rim around the top and this has an inset green leather writing surface with tooled edges. The back is also nicely finished, so this can be used as a free standing item.

We have had this recently re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age. There is just some minor wear, patina and various small marks here and there remaining beneath the polish, commensurate for age.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Campaign furniture originated during the 18th and 19th centuries to be easily dismantled, transported, and reassembled for military officers travelling on duty.

These desks are typically constructed from durable hardwoods like mahogany or teak, and fitted with recessed brass corners, straps, and flush-fitting pull handles to prevent snagging during transit.

Authentic pieces feature sectional construction designed to break down into multiple parts, dovetail jointing, solid brass hardware inset into the wood, and appropriate age-related patination.

A campaign desk serves as a striking focal point in a home study or living room, pairing well with minimalist contemporary seating to highlight its historical craftsmanship.

Maintain the wood with high-quality beeswax and protect the leather writing surface by avoiding direct sunlight and treating it periodically with neutral leather cream.
