FAQs

The Georgian style spans the reigns of King George I through George IV, characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and the transition from walnut to mahogany as the primary timber.

Georgian chests of drawers were typically constructed from solid mahogany or feature flame mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcases, joined using hand-cut dovetails.

Authenticity is determined by hand-cut dovetail joints, handmade iron or brass fixings, timber shrinkage consistent with age, and construction methods characteristic of the 18th or early 19th century.

Pairing a historic dark wood chest with neutral walls and minimalist contemporary art creates a balanced focal point that highlights the rich grain of the timber.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
