A Victorian skeleton marine barometer is a meteorological instrument designed for use at sea during the 19th century, featuring an exposed or skeletonised dial to display the internal aneroid mechanism.

These instruments were typically constructed with heavy brass cases, silvered or white enamel dials with engraved black lettering, and delicate internal steel and brass movement components.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-engraved dial typography, heavy cast brass construction, patination consistent with age, and traditional mechanical aneroid capsules rather than modern digital sensors.

Mounting the piece on a dark panelled wall or displaying it as a focal point within a study or hallway complements its industrial maritime heritage and polished metal finish.

Preserve the instrument by keeping it away from direct sunlight and high moisture, dusting the brass gently with a dry microfibre cloth without using abrasive metal polishes.
