FAQs

Victorian mahogany furniture from the period c.1840-1880 typically exhibits dense, rich timbers, robust construction, and refined proportions, reflecting the craftsmanship of prominent London cabinet makers.

These pieces are generally constructed from solid mahogany and mahogany veneers over secondary timbers such as oak or pine, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction for structural integrity.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut dovetails, traditional timber shrinkage, original brass or turned wood drawer pulls, and maker stamps or paper labels inside the drawer linings.

Pairing this traditional storage piece with minimalist walls, neutral textiles, and modern lighting creates a balanced scheme that highlights the warmth and grain of the timber.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying a natural beeswax polish periodically, and avoiding silicone-based sprays.
