FAQs

Decorative ceramic tiles gained popularity in the 19th and early 20th centuries as both architectural features and standalone art objects, often featuring hand-painted pastoral or historical scenes.

These pieces typically consist of a glazed earthenware or ceramic blank decorated with hand-applied mineral pigments and fired to achieve a durable, glossy finish.

Authenticity is determined by examining the glaze crazing, the composition of the ceramic body on the reverse, the hand-painted brushwork details, and any maker marks or artist initials.

A vintage tile can be mounted in a custom frame to function as wall art, displayed on a mantelpiece using a dedicated stand, or integrated into a gallery wall for added texture and historical narrative.

Preservation involves dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that can damage the glaze, and keeping the item away from excessive moisture and direct sunlight.
