Antique Mahal Carpet

An amazing antique Mahal carpet with Ziegler elements of design, a large scale floral pattern all over is a design seen more in the late 19th century examples.  The border colour of saffron yellow is also a rare and scarcely used colour, due to the expense to create it, but it is an exquisite dye to see on this border.  Amazing deep indigo blues, greens and off-whites balance the whole composition of this decorative antique carpet.  The main field colour is full of abrash (dye change) as the reds change shades throughout, adding depth and huge character.  A really stunning example from Mahal in Sultanabad, Persia, woven over 130 years ago.

In fantastic order all over, a good medium wool pile height and even original fringes at both ends. A beautiful carpet for a drawing room, bedroom, study or entrance hall.  We would supply sturdy anti-slip underlay with this carpet, to aid its strength on the floor and it also helps preserve the carpet too.  As wear is more-often caused by a carpet moving on a floor, creating creases which over time turn into wear.
