Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

This nineteenth-century Victorian credenza exhibits exhibition quality in a warm brown tone with distinct figure patterns across the burr walnut and amboyna timbers. The upper surface carries a pierced brass gallery rail, a simple fore edge, and egg and dart beading along the moulding beneath. Two glazed central doors house adjustable shelves inside and feature a hanging tassel pull on a small key, while flanking arched side doors display dense pierced fretwork carving and rest between turned and fluted columns. The cabinet stands on an enclosed protruding plinth base that measures 94 cm high by 183 cm wide and 46 cm deep. Suitable for display and storage in a dining room, living room or hallway today.

FAQs

A Victorian credenza is a low, wide side cabinet originating in the 19th century, traditionally featuring central glazed or solid doors flanked by decorative side panels, columns, or open shelving, used for storage and display in formal reception rooms.

These pieces frequently featured highly figured wood veneers such as burr walnut, amboyna, and rosewood, often accented with brass galleries, hand-carved pilasters, and leaded or float glass panel doors.

Authentic period pieces showcase hand-cut dovetail joinery, subtle natural irregularities in hand-carved details, historical wear around keyholes, and genuine oxidisation on original brass fittings and interior surfaces.

Integrate the cabinet into a contemporary space by using its top surface to display minimalist ceramics, modern artwork, or structured table lamps, balancing the dark wood tones against neutral walls.

Preserve figured wood veneers by keeping the cabinet away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and applying high-quality beeswax sparingly to protect the polished finish.
