FAQs

French sideboards and buffets gained prominence in dining rooms during the 18th and 19th centuries as functional storage for tableware and serving dishes, frequently incorporating marble tops for durability and elegance.

These cabinets are traditionally constructed from solid oak using mortise and tenon joinery, featuring hand-carved decorative motifs, brass hardware, and fitted heavy stone slabs on the upper surface.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate tool marks, hand-cut dovetailing in the drawer construction, natural timber shrinkage, and genuine patination on the hardware and marble surface.

Pairing this item with contemporary abstract art, minimalist lighting, or sleek ceramics creates a balanced contrast that highlights the rich texture of the carved wood and stone.

Maintain the timber using appropriate beeswax formulations to nourish the wood, and clean the marble surface with neutral pH solutions, avoiding acidic substances that can etch the stone.
