Description

‘The old fishermans cottage, Plymouth’

By artist Michael James Mor

Impasto style oil on canvas laid to board, signed and dated mid 20th century verso.

Although abstract, the impasto adds a wonderful animation to the painting that really makes the subjects standout.

There is a general wear and tear to the frame as seen in the pictures, and the canvas is lifting slightly in the top left corner of the board. However this does not detract from the integrity of the painting.

An oil painting is a work of art created using pigments bound with a drying oil, typically linseed oil, applied to canvas or wood panels.

Traditional materials include linen or cotton canvas stretched over wooden frames, ground mineral and organic pigments, and drying oils.

Authenticity is identified through canvas weave analysis, pigment testing, examination of craquelure patterns, and maker signatures or framer marks.

Pairing traditional oil paintings with contemporary minimalist furniture creates a balanced focal point that adds texture and depth to neutral walls.

Preserve oil paintings by keeping them away from direct sunlight, maintaining stable humidity levels, and dusting gently with a soft dry brush.
