Culvertons has dated this piece to the 1870s.
As you can see from the attached images the cut of walnut used to decorate, all but its back, is particularly well-figured and has an appealing tone and depth. The turned wooden knobs are original, as are the working locks that are fitted throughout the desk's nine drawers (keys supplied). Sited within the interior of the middle drawer, is the enamelled trade label for the high-quality cabinet makers W J Mansell of Fulham Road, London. The condition of the original desk leather was unfortunately past conserving, so with care and consideration we hand-coloured a replacement hide that complimented the desk and paid homage to the original. This attractive burr walnut desk has been sensitively and professionally restored to a high standard and is ready to be used and enjoyed.
