Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late 18th century, Georgian sideboards were designed primarily for dining rooms to serve food and store tableware. Typically crafted from timber such as mahogany, they feature symmetrical proportions, tapered legs, and decorative veneers.

Georgian sideboards were predominantly constructed using solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, often accented with boxwood stringing or satinwood inlay. Hardware typically consists of cast or stamped brass ring pulls and escutcheons.

Authentic Georgian pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine secondary drawer timbers, and original iron lock mechanisms. Look for natural age-related patina, slight irregularities in hand-planed surfaces, and period-correct brass hardware.

A Georgian sideboard functions as a hallway console, dining room server, or living room anchor piece. Pairing warm mahogany timber tones with contemporary artwork, neutral wall colours, and minimal decorative accents creates a balanced visual contrast.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent shrinkage or timber movement. Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish annually to protect the surface finish.
