Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Plaster busts became prominent during the 18th and 19th centuries as Grand Tour travellers acquired reproductions of classical Greek and Roman antiquities. These items served as educational tools and symbols of refined taste in European academies and private residences.

Plaster sculptures are created by pouring liquid plaster of Paris, a gypsum derivative, into silicone, gelatine, or piece-moulds taken from a original master model. Larger examples often contain internal armatures made of iron or wood to reinforce the structural stability.

Authentic period plaster casts display distinct manufacturing characteristics, including visible seam lines from multi-piece moulds, minor casting imperfections, and natural surface patination. Markings from established casting firms or museum plaster workshops may also appear near the base.

Positioning a classical sculpture on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or dedicated pedestal creates a visual focal point through geometric contrast. Pair the object with contemporary artwork or architectural elements to balance historical forms within modern schemes.

Plaster should be kept dry, as moisture degrades unsealed gypsum and causes surface staining. Dust the object regularly using a soft, dry camel-hair brush, avoiding wet cloths, chemical cleansers, or abrasive tools.
