Description

A very handsome antique carpet with exquisite colour and design. This top flight furnishing carpet is single wefted and belongs to the Karaja family, though, with its open design and liberal use of pale blue, is more like a Bakshaish in its aesthetics. A piece of good age, 1870-1890, it remains in very nice condition, a few old repairs and traces of use, even low pile through out. An interesting and beautiful furnishing carpet that should excite the connoisseur.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Karaja carpets originate from the Northwest region of Persia, historically characterised by bold geometric medallion designs, rich terracotta and blue tones, and robust village craftsmanship.

Authentic pieces are traditionally hand-knotted with hand-spun wool pile on cotton foundations, utilizing natural vegetable and mineral dyes for the distinct coloration.

Authenticity is determined by examining the irregularity of hand-knotted construction, the patina of aged wool, natural dye variations across the pile, and traditional tribal motifs.

These carpets serve as strong foundational anchoring elements, complementing both traditional period rooms and modern minimalist spaces by adding texture, heritage colour, and graphic interest.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without beater bars, professional hand washing periodically, and protection from direct sunlight to prevent dye fading.
