Description

Here is a metal flask with a cork stopper decorated all over with flowers and patterns in rich colours against a black background, executed in an attractive naive style. The bottle is made from metal sheets beaten together, which form a watertight bond.

The bottle stands 27cm tall with its wooden stopper in, and is 17cm wide and 11cm deep.

As displayed in the photographs, the bottle is very much in a 'used' condition with the knocks and scrapes of well over a hundred years of love and wear, but personally I think this adds to its charm.

I am also selling a larger bottle ( please see separate listing ), so should you wish to purchase both, I would definitely look to give a discount for the pair.

I offer free postage to the UK and can help organise quotes for shipping abroad.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch if I can offer any further information of photographs.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nineteenth-century water flasks from India were often crafted for practical transport as well as ceremonial or decorative purposes, reflecting the sophisticated metalworking and painting traditions of the region.

These vessels were typically formed from metal, such as brass or steel, and finished with applied pigments, lacquers, or intricate surface engravings executed by skilled artisans.

Authenticity is determined by examining the patination of the metal, the composition of the mineral pigments, hand-applied details, and overall construction consistency relative to historical manufacturing methods.

Such decorative objects can be displayed as standalone sculptural centrepieces on open shelving, mantelpieces, or side tables to introduce historical texture and global craftsmanship to modern spaces.

To preserve the delicate pigments and metal surfaces, keep the item away from direct sunlight, maintain stable humidity levels, and clean gently with a dry, soft microfiber cloth without using chemical solvents.
