Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Apothecary weight sets were created for pharmacists, druggists, and chemists to measure precise quantities of medicinal powders, liquids, and compounds. Standardised weight systems were implemented during the nineteenth century to ensure uniformity in pharmaceutical preparation across the United Kingdom.

The weights were typically turned from solid brass or bronze to maintain consistency and precision, while the fitted base blocks were crafted from hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or beech. Recessed circular sockets were precisely bored into the timber block to accommodate each specific weight in sequence.

Authentic pieces generally display official verification stamps or crown cyphers stamped directly into the brass surface. Natural surface patination, wear on the wooden base, and imperial mass markings in grains, drachms, or ounces also distinguish authentic period sets.

A weight block functions as a decorative object when displayed on a bookshelf, desk, or sideboard top. The contrast between warm timber and patinated brass suits spaces styled with a Gentlemans Library, Industrial, or Rustic aesthetic.

The brass elements should be cleaned with a soft dry cloth to preserve the natural oxidisation and aged patina rather than using abrasive chemical polishes. The wooden block can be treated occasionally with clear beeswax polish to protect the timber grain from moisture loss.
