This dark brown patinated bronze Japanese okimono sculpture depicts three playful puppies upon a textured base. One puppy sits upright on the left, another stands with its front paws raised on the right, and a third pup lies on its back between them with paws in the air. The bronze has a smooth dark finish that catches the light across the rounded contours of the dogs' bodies and heads, showing fine chiselled hair details around their necks. The sculptural group rests upon an irregular oval platform with a hand-hammered or stippled texture representing the ground beneath the animals. The entire piece measures 14 cm high, 23 cm wide, and 18 cm deep. Such a decorative bronze object fits well in a gentleman's library study or upon a bookshelf display among leather-bound books and collections of small antiques. The compact dimensions allow placement on narrow mantelpieces, desk surfaces, or side cabinets in a traditional or eclectic interior scheme.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry brush or microfibre cloth, avoid water and chemical cleaners, and periodically apply microcrystalline wax to protect the natural patina.

Place the sculpture on a dark wood console table, mantelpiece, or bookshelf to act as a focal point alongside minimalist ceramic art or structured architectural elements.

Authentic pieces exhibit precise hand-chiselled detail, organic surface wear, signatures or foundry marks, and depth of colour in the patina rather than a flat, modern chemical coating.

These sculptures were cast using the lost-wax process in bronze or copper alloys, followed by detailed hand-chiselling, engraving, and chemical patination to achieve complex surface colours and textures.

An okimono is a Japanese decorative table sculpture created for display in traditional tokonoma alcoves, rising to international prominence during the Meiji period (18681912) as metalworkers transitioned from armour making to fine art.
