Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

French antique seating, such as settees and couches, typically features elegant carved wooden frames, cabriole or fluted legs, and sophisticated upholstery reflecting the design sensibilities of periods like Louis XV, Louis XVI, or French Provincial.

These pieces are predominantly constructed from hardwoods such as beech, walnut, or oak for the exposed carved frames, traditionally joined with mortise and tenon construction, and upholstered using horsehair, springs, and high-grade textiles.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the hand-carved details, tool marks on the wood, the type of joinery used in the frame, the ageing and patina of the timber, and traditional upholstery methods beneath the outer fabric.

An antique French sofa serves as a sophisticated focal point in a contemporary living room when paired with minimalist furniture, neutral walls, and modern lighting, creating a balanced eclectic aesthetic.

Preservation involves keeping the piece away from direct sunlight to prevent fabric fading and wood drying, regular gentle vacuuming with a soft brush attachment, and applying appropriate wax or polish to the exposed wooden frame.
