Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Putti, which depict winged male children, became popular motifs during the Renaissance and were heavily revived in 19th-century French Neoclassical decorative arts. Inspired by classical antiquity and mythology, these figures were frequently incorporated into bronzes, clock cases, and furniture mounts to symbolise love, music, or the arts.

French statuettes from this era were primarily cast in bronze or brass, often finished with fire gilding (ormolu) or a patinated surface. They were typically mounted on bases made from imported white, black, or veined marble to add stability and visual contrast.

Authentic pieces generally display precise hand-chased surface details in the metal, subtle variations in oxidation, and solid construction weight. The underside of the metal cast typically exhibits historical casting marks or core remnants, while original marble bases show natural veining and minor edge wear consistent with age.

A small classical bronze statuette can be integrated into contemporary spaces by placing it atop a stack of art books on a coffee table, positioning it within a modern bookshelf display, or styling it alongside clean-lined ceramics on a mantelpiece.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, soft-bristled brush or microfibre cloth to clean intricate areas. Avoid liquid polish, abrasive chemicals, or water on gilt bronze and marble, as moisture can break down protective lacquer finishes and cause staining or oxidisation.
