Description

A remarkable fine antique Chi Chi rug, bursting with colour and crisp geometric design.  Exquisite varying blues, changing colour and greens with rich yellows and green.  Well proportioned design and though-out by the weaver over 140 years ago.  The weave is fine and pile height medium high all over.  Both fringes have been professionally rewoven around 3-4cm, which has been done expertly and does not detract from the rugs value and rarity.  The sheer brightness and sharp colour and design is what made us excited about adding this exceptional piece to our inventory.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Chi-Chi rugs are a distinct type of Caucasian rug traditionally woven by weavers in the eastern Caucasus region, known for their precise geometric motifs and characteristic palettes.

These rugs are traditionally hand-knotted using hand-spun wool for both the pile and the foundation, often featuring natural vegetable dyes that yield rich, saturated colours over time.

Authentication involves examining the knot density, the natural abrash in the wool fibres, the characteristics of the foundation, and traditional regional motifs such as stylized stars and diagonal borders.

An antique tribal rug functions well as a focal point in both traditional and modern rooms, grounding minimalist furniture or adding texture and historic character to transitional spaces.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without a beater bar, professional washing by a specialist in antique textiles, and using a quality underlay to prevent sliding and wear.
