FAQs

Floral still life painting gained immense popularity during the Dutch Golden Age of the seventeenth century, evolving through subsequent centuries with various regional schools focusing on botanical accuracy, rich colour palettes, and symbolic representations of nature.

These works were traditionally executed using oil paints ground from natural pigments mixed with linseed or walnut oil, applied onto stretched linen or canvas, and housed within hand-carved, gilded wooden frames.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the canvas weave, the presence of natural craquelure in the paint layer, pigment oxidation under ultraviolet light, and the construction methods and ageing patination of the stretcher bars and frame.

A large-scale traditional canvas anchors a contemporary space by introducing rich texture and depth, working particularly well when paired with minimalist furniture to let the artwork serve as a dramatic focal point.

Preservation requires hanging the artwork away from direct sunlight and high humidity, avoiding chemical cleaners on the canvas or frame, and consulting a professional art conservator for periodic surface dust removal and varnish stabilisation.
