An okimono is a traditional Japanese decorative object, typically a small sculpture made of metal, wood, or ivory, created specifically for display in alcoves or interiors during the Meiji period (18681912).

They were traditionally cast using the lost-wax process, followed by detailed hand-chasing to carve surface textures such as fur, and finished with chemical patination to achieve deep tone variations.

Authentic pieces display naturalistic detail, fine hand-finishing on surface textures, subtle age-related surface wear, and occasionally incised or cast maker signatures on the underside.
