Description

Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this absolutely stunning Georgian Irish style Victorian sofa with hand carved Hawk claw & Ball feet and Hawk head detailing.

Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, it covers within the M25 only for the UK and local Europe only for international, if you would like an accurate quote, please send me your postcode and I’ll provide you with the exact price.

I’ve never seen another of this quality style and charm, it is simply exquisite throughout, the upholstery seems period and original, we have lightly restored it to include a professional upholstery clean.

The legs are all carved from solid slabs of mahogany, they have been stained and polished from new, the end result is something which should be classed as art furniture. The arms are hawk heads eating worms I think surrounded by flowers.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These sofas typically feature dense mahogany frames, intricate hand-carved details such as claw and ball feet, and deep upholstered seating designed for formal reading rooms and studies.

19th-century makers utilised solid mahogany for the exposed frame, traditional horsehair and spring padding for internal construction, and woven wool, silk, or cotton brocades for upholstery.

Authentic pieces display hand-carving marks with subtle asymmetry, traditional joinery techniques like hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, and natural age-related patination across the timber finish.

Pairing a dark mahogany frame with neutral modern wall tones and minimalist accent lighting creates a balanced contrast between historic furniture design and contemporary interiors.

Dust the wood carving regularly with a dry soft brush, apply natural beeswax sparingly along the grain, and keep the frame away from direct sunlight or radiator heat sources.
