Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Grand Tour bronze statue of Narcissus is a 19th-century souvenir casting based on the ancient Roman bronze original discovered in Pompeii in 1862. Wealthy European travellers acquired these scaled reproductions while touring Italy as symbols of classical education and refined taste.

These figures were cast using the lost-wax (cire perdue) or sand-casting method. Foundries in Naples and Rome hand-chased the cold bronze to add detailed texture to hair, sandals, and draping before applying chemical patinas to achieve rich, dark brown or green finishes.

Authentic period bronzes exhibit crisp hand-chased details, significant weight, and subtle surface wear consistent with age. Look for hand-threaded assembly screws beneath the base, refined hand-finishing along casting seams, and an organic patina rather than painted modern coatings.

Place the sculpture on a mantelpiece, marble console table, or within a bookshelf alongside bound volumes. Contrast the dark, patinated surface against light neutral backgrounds or modern minimalist millwork to highlight the figurative silhouette.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth or feather duster. To preserve the original patina and prevent oxidisation, apply a thin coat of clear microcrystalline wax annually and buff gently with a soft microfibre towel without using liquid polishes or chemical cleaners.
