A Garner & Marney Mahogany stick barometer.
 
This reproduction from 1920’s is based upon a popular highly recognised style of stick barometer produced by the distinguished Alexander Adie.
 
This very fine stick barometer with mercury tube, in a beautiful mahogany case with reeded top and foliate finial, a thin bow fronted trunk and oversized reeded cistern cover with a fine engraved silvered scale and blued screws. 27 to 31 inch scale with rack and pinion vernier adjusted via the finial.

Alexander Adie was born in 1775. At 14 he was apprenticed to John Miller, his uncle, one of the most highly respected eighteenth century Scottish instrument makers. Miller and Adie formed a partnership that ran from 1804 to 1822.
 
Alexander Adie was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1819 and was appointed optician to Willaim IV and Queen Victoria. He went into partnership with his son, John, in 1835. Many consider him to be the finest ...
