A highly decorative antique stick barometer of elegant proportions, finely crafted in richly figured mahogany and extensively inlaid throughout with delicate mother-of-pearl foliate and scrolling decoration. The case is beautifully shaped, with an arched crest, flowing outlines, and balanced symmetry typical of quality English work.
The silvered circular register is enclosed behind a convex glazed bezel and retains its original engraved dial with clearly defined weather indications including Stormy, Rain, Change, Fair, and Very Dry. The barometer is fitted with finely pierced blued steel hands and a central decorative boss, adding to its refined appearance.
Above, the mercury thermometer is housed within a glazed aperture and remains clear and legible, with traditional temperature markings. The quality of the mother-of-pearl inlay is particularly notable, with crisp detailing and excellent contrast against the warm mahogany ground.
The barometer presents very well overall, ret
...aining a pleasing original patina and strong colour and would make a striking decorative addition to a traditional or period interior.
