A superb Derby Bloor Dessert plate decorated with roses within gilt wreaths on a deep blue background. Red mark to the base.

The Derby Porcelain Company, later called Royal Crown Derby, is currently the oldest British porcelain factory still in production. Derby pottery has gone through many iterations from the mid 1700s to today. In the 1820s, it came under the ownership of Robert Bloor and was named ''Bloor Derby''. As the company was in financial difficulty Robert Bloor had to find a way to turn it around. Finding a large stock of less-than-perfectly potted items that had been rejected, he decided to create a large range of cobalt blue items with busy flower paintings, which would hide the small imperfections in the glaze. Against expectations, this range of deeply coloured wares became very popular. This beautiful plate has two tiny imperfections when running a finger along the blue glaze. It is in remarkably good condition with only minimal wear to the gilt.
