Antique Yomut Okbash, Central Asia, Circa 1890

The Yomut nomads of Central Asia would weave rugs and other types of utility items for domestic purposes. ''Okbash'' is the term for a special weaving made to cover the ends of the tent poles during their migrations. This is piece is beautifully made in a fine wool, and has survived in extremely good condition. Today good okbash are rare and sought after by collectors, They also make decorative furnishings and wall items. This piece has been washed and is ready for immediate use.
