Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 18th-century miniature chest of drawers in the Georgian style is fashioned from dark brown oak. The rectangular top displays a well-figured timber surface enclosed by an inset crossbanded border of walnut above a shaped moulding. Six small drawers are arranged in an unusual formation, finished with overlip moulded edges, narrow walnut banding, and small round brass knob handles. The cabinet rests on shaped bracket feet, exhibiting a warm patina across its wooden surfaces. Measuring 45 cm high by 38.7 cm wide and 26.6 cm deep, this piece occupies minimal surface area. It suits placement on top of a sideboard, chest, or desk in a living room, hallway, or study within an English country house setting. The small drawers provide practical storage for trinkets, stationery, or collection items while adding traditional character to domestic interior spaces.

FAQs

In the 18th century, miniature chests were frequently crafted as cabinetmakers apprentice pieces to demonstrate craftsmanship, as trade samples for travelling salesmen, or as tabletop storage for valuables such as jewellery, documents, and spices.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid timbers such as oak or walnut, featuring hand-cut dovetailed drawer joints, crossbanded veneered borders, and turned wooden or cast brass knobs.

Authentic period examples display evidence of hand-planed surfaces, irregular hand-cut dovetail joints, natural wood shrinkage across the grain, and historical oxidisation around original drawer handles.

A miniature chest serves as a tabletop accent on a sideboard, desk, or bookshelf, offering functional storage for small items while adding historical character to contemporary interior schemes.

Dust the item regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish annually to protect the original finish, keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and heat source fluctuations.
