Description

Antique 19th Century Chinese bronze figural censer, c1880. It is well cast with great stylised form depicting a man astride an Ox. He appears to be carrying a scroll so may well be a scholar. It has great colour/patina and just the right amount of rubbing where it has been handled over the years. The figure detaches from the Ox to enable you to insert incense and there is a formed hole in the riders back to enable the smoke to escape. Overall condition is good with only minor surface wear / rubbing and verdigris marks, all very much as you would expect from a piece of this age.
