Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Mahal carpets originate from the Mahal district in west-central Persia, known for producing durable, room-sized rugs characterised by large-scale, open floral patterns and softer colour palettes tailored for Western export markets during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Authentic Mahal carpets are traditionally hand-knotted using a wool pile on cotton foundations, employing natural vegetable dyes derived from plants, roots, and insects to achieve rich, enduring hues.

Authenticity is identified by examining the irregular knotting density on the reverse, the use of hand-spun wool with subtle abrash colour variations, and characteristic curvilinear floral motifs with prominent medallion or all-over trellis designs.

An antique carpet can anchor contemporary living spaces by providing textural contrast and historic warmth, pairing effectively with minimalist furniture, neutral walls, and clean architectural lines.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without beater bars, professional hand-washing by specialists in textile conservation, and avoiding direct, prolonged exposure to harsh sunlight to prevent fading.
