This Victorian framed print from 1870 is a multicolour paper engraving mounted under glass in a plain black wooden frame with a simple rectangular moulding. The scene depicts a nineteenth-century horse racing event at Punchestown, showing multiple jockeys on horseback, spectator tents, and a rolling landscape background with a title inscription below the image area. Visible details include green and brown tones in the landscape, riders in various coloured racing silks, and slight yellowing and age discolouration on the white paper margin around the print. The inside of the frame measures 84 cm by 51 cm, and the outside measures 88 cm by 55 cm. Traditional works of this style suit a gentleman's library, study, or hallway, and this print hangs effectively above a sideboard or console table. The neutral black frame tone and classic equestrian subject matter coordinate easily with traditional wood furniture, leather seating, and heritage interior decorative schemes. Hanging hardware attached to the back allows for secure wall mounting in residential reception rooms.

An antique equestrian engraving is a print created by incising a design onto a metal plate, transferring the image to paper, and often finishing it with hand-applied watercolour. These works typically document horse racing, fox hunting, and equine portraiture from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Nineteenth-century sporting prints were predominantly printed on handmade rag paper using oil-based inks. Techniques such as aquatint or steel engraving allowed for fine tonal gradation, which was frequently enhanced by colourists using watercolour washes.

Authentic antique engravings exhibit a plate mark, which is a distinct indented rectangular border created by the pressure of the printing plate against the paper. Examination under magnification will reveal continuous hand-painted watercolour strokes or fine cross-hatching rather than modern dot-matrix printing patterns.

Equine prints can be hung in symmetrical pairs or grid layouts above a sideboard, mantelpiece, or along a hallway. Framing them in clean, modern mouldings or classic dark wood frames allows them to complement both traditional and contemporary design schemes.

Display paper prints away from direct sunlight and moisture to prevent fading and foxing. Ensure the artwork is mounted using acid-free materials and protected behind UV-filtering glass to preserve the paper and original hand colouring.
