Antique Flemish pewter straining dish of 11.25in diameter, by Franciscus Janssens of Brussels. The most likely use of these plates was in cheese making or other domestic uses.
The plate has a reeded rim and inscribed lines to the centre.
The plate has a clear set of touch marks to the front along with ownership initials ‘PS’.
The plate is in excellent condition with a polished silver finish to the face and a natural grey patina to the reverse. It is interesting to see on the face the lines lightly inscribed by the maker to guide the positioning of the straining holes.
Circa 1760.
