Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Chippendale period writing table originates from eighteenth-century England. Fashioned from mahogany with a waxed finish and a warm brown colour, the piece incorporates an olive green leather writing surface decorated with gilt tooling. The structural design includes straight chamfered legs joined by pierced fretwork corner spandrels, complemented by three drawers fitted with swan-neck brass handles and keyhole escutcheons, plus a decorative tassel hanging from the central drawer. The table measures 77 cm high, 117 cm wide, and 81 cm deep. Placed within a gentleman's library or a home study, this table serves as a functional workspace for writing or administrative tasks. The surface provides a dedicated area for stationery, books, and lamps, while the drawers offer practical storage for pens and paperwork. The classical proportions and traditional materials allow the piece to anchor a room as a central desk or stand against a perimeter wall in a study or home office.

FAQs

Chippendale period furniture refers to 18th-century English designs influenced by cabinetmaker Thomas Chippendale, combining mid-Georgian proportions with Rococo, Gothic, or Chinese architectural motifs.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany, featuring hand-dovetailed drawer linings made of oak or pine, brass hardware, and tool-gilded leather writing surfaces.

Authentic items exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, original drawer linings, period-appropriate brass handles, and hand-carved elements such as pierced corner spandrels without evidence of modern machine work.

Position the table in a home office or living room alcove, paired with a modern desk chair or neutral upholstery to balance historical woodwork with contemporary decor.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply natural beeswax sparingly to polished wood surfaces, and clean the leather top with dedicated leather balance cream while avoiding direct heat sources.
