Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Persian Bakhtiar carpet dates from the 1920 period and measures 312 cm high by 217 cm wide with a 1 cm depth. The hand-knotted wool and cotton construction displays a structured garden panel grid enclosing botanical motifs, including cypress tree patterns, paisley boteh designs, and various floral arrangements in shades of red, navy blue, yellow, pink, and gold. A detailed floral main border frames the central design field, complemented by secure fringes and selvedges showing light age-related wear. \n\nThe traditional Persian design works well in a reception room, study, or bedroom setting to add warmth and texture over wooden flooring or under furniture.

FAQs

Bakhtiar carpets originate from the Zagros Mountains region in Iran, crafted by village and nomadic weavers. They are recognized by their panelled garden design, featuring repeating square compartments containing botanical and geometric motifs.

These carpets are hand-knotted using wool pile tied onto a heavy cotton warp and weft foundation. The wool is historically coloured using natural plant and mineral dyes to ensure lasting colour density.

Authentic Bakhtiar carpets feature the classic Khesti compartment layout, thick wool construction, and subtle abrash shade variations. Examining the underside reveals visible, hand-tied knots rather than uniform machine backing.

Place a panelled Bakhtiar carpet as an anchor in a living or dining space to ground modern minimalist or traditional wooden furniture. The architectural grid pattern provides visual contrast alongside neutral textiles and walls.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only setting without a rotating brush bar to protect the pile fibres. Rotate the carpet annually for uniform wear and consult specialist hand-washing conservators for stain treatment.
