FAQs

During the 19th century, large circular cast iron vessels served various agricultural and domestic functions, including washing textiles, scalding, brewing, or functioning as livestock feeding and watering troughs.

These vessels were formed by pouring molten pig iron into sand moulds, resulting in thick, durable metal walls with integral heavy-gauge loop handles and rolled rims designed to withstand heavy utility.

Authentic period pieces exhibit heavy weight, slight surface irregularities from sand casting, seam marks from multi-part moulds, and a deep surface oxidisation or patina built up over decades of exposure.
