This late Georgian English camel backed sofa originates from the 19th century and accommodates three people. Mahogany, cotton, brass and burlap comprise the structure, presenting a muted floral beige colour palette with natural wood tones. The piece exhibits a tall camelback silhouette, rolled arms, tapered mahogany legs and brass castors. Visible signs of age include unrefined burlap seat upholstery and natural wear to the exposed wooden framework. Measuring 95 cm high, 196 cm wide and 76 cm deep, this seating option integrates into a traditional living room or reception room setting for daily lounging. The seat stands at 45 cm high with a depth of 60 cm.

FAQs

A camelback sofa is defined by an arched backrest that curves upward into one or more prominent humps, inspired by 18th-century designs by Thomas Chippendale.

Frame construction typically utilised solid hardwoods such as mahogany or beech, stuffed with horsehair or coir over webbing, and upholstered in wool damask, linen, or cotton textiles.

Look for hand-joined timber frames, traditional brass castors attached to tapered or turned legs, hand-tacked upholstery layers, and age-appropriate wear to the timber finish.

Its distinctive curved silhouette provides a sculptural contrast against clean modern wall lines, balancing minimalist rooms when upholstered in neutral or textured fabrics.

Vacuum upholstery gently using a soft brush attachment, keep timber components away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking, and apply natural beeswax to wooden legs periodically.
