Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Dutch traditional brass fire iron tidy dates from 1850 and is rendered in a warm gold colour. The complete set includes a stand and hanging hooks carrying five utensils: large tongs, a small shovel, a brush, small tongs, and a large shovel. The stand features a double-headed eagle finial at the top, twisted brass stems, and a curved tripod base supporting the hanging fire tools and the floor-standing brush. The object measures 100 cm high, 30 cm wide, and 33 cm deep. It is designed to sit directly on the fireplace hearth to organise and display the companion set in a traditional interior setting.

FAQs

Dutch brass fire irons are traditional fireplace tool sets originating from the Netherlands, designed to hold essential hearth utensils such as tongs, shovels, and brushes on a central decorative stand.

Traditional Dutch companion sets are crafted from cast or sheet brass, frequently featuring turned or spiral-twisted brass shafts, decorative finials, and cast iron or steel structural components.

Authentic pieces often display cast decorative motifs such as double-headed eagles or heraldic crests, hand-twisted spiral metalwork, seam lines from casting, and natural wear patterns near the base and tool handles.

Position the stand directly on the hearth or inside an alcove beside a wood-burning stove or traditional open fireplace to add warm metallic tones and architectural interest to living spaces.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a non-abrasive brass polish periodically to remove tarnish, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that may strip natural patination.
