Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This heavy solid oak three-drawer dresser base dates from the 19th century in a rustic farmhouse style, finished in polished quarter-sawn oak with dark brown timber tones and solid panel sides and back. The top sits above an ogee edge moulding, surmounting three dovetailed inline drawers fitted with brass drop handles. The base stands on shaped solid oak square legs beneath a straight apron, showing visible general usage wear and old repairs. Measuring 79 cm high, 183 cm wide, and 58 cm deep, this substantial surface provides generous display and storage capacity for modern living areas, serving effectively as a sideboard in a dining room, a console table in a hallway, or a functional work surface in a kitchen.

FAQs

A 19th-century oak dresser base is a long, low storage table featuring drawers, traditionally used as the lower half of a Welsh dresser or as an independent serving table in country homes.

These pieces were built from solid English or European oak, utilizing hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon joinery, and fitted brass drop-handle hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-finished drawer linings, uneven timber shrinkage along the top surfaces, genuine brass hardware oxidisation, and wear patterns consistent with historical usage.

Position the piece in a large hallway or dining room, paired with modern abstract wall art above and minimalist ceramic vessels on the top surface to balance traditional wood tones.

Maintain the surface by applying high-quality natural beeswax polish annually, keeping the item away from direct heat sources, and wiping timber surfaces with a dry microfibre cloth.
