What a great looking carpet- and at a great price! The honeyed, soft, creamy and peachy tones with hints of green are an absolute delight to live with and are much requested. This usually leads to a much higher price, so why is this one so reasonable, you ask yourselves...Well, due to the dedication of person or persons unknown, and I strongly suspect at least one grandmother, this massive carpet has had an enormous amount of amateur, 'homespun' repairs which are luckily, mostly visible on the back. After considerable inspection I have determined that there was an over-zealous attempt to preserve the integrity of this beautiful carpet, probably for sentimental reasons, and that most of it is unnecessary. They weren't to know but just wanted to keep and use a beautiful family heirloom. So I've had my workshop go over it, weed out the most egregious bits, close any holes and give it a deep wash, its first in several generations, I think. It came out beautifully, with the wool quality really springing to life. Gorgeously thick pile feels great underfoot. The first six photos show the front and the following pictures show the reverse and you can see the abundant homemade stitching, mostly for no purpose as far as I can tell but I don't want to spend weeks unpicking it to find out. The carpet is solid, strong and absolutely suitable for the floor. So, it looks like a £20-30,000 carpet and is available for just £5,000. Please contact if you wish to secure this rare opportunity.

Oushak carpets originate from the town of Usak in Western Anatolia, Turkey, which has been a recognised centre for woven rug production since the fifteenth century. These carpets are characterized by their soft wool construction, light pastel or warm earth-tone palettes, and large-scale floral or geometric patterns.

Traditional Oushak carpets are hand-knotted using high-grade local wool worked onto a wool or cotton warp and weft foundation. Historical examples utilized natural vegetable dyes to create muted tones of apricot, saffron, terracotta, and cream.

Authentic antique Oushak carpets feature Ghiordes, or symmetrical, knotting with a relatively low knot density, resulting in a flexible and soft handle.
