Neoclassical sculpture emerged during the mid-18th century, taking direct inspiration from classical antiquity and ancient Greco-Roman motifs. The style emphasises symmetry, idealised human anatomy, harmonious proportion, and draped foliage or fabric.

Traditional classical figure sculptures were typically sculpted from marble or cast in bronze. Smaller interior replicas and decorative studies are commonly formed using plaster, cast stone, terracotta, or composite resins to emulate carved stone.

Authentic period figures display crisp detail in draped garments and facial features, subtle hand-finishing tool marks, and signatures or maker marks near the base. Cast plaster and stone pieces often reveal faint seam lines from multi-part moulds alongside natural surface patination.

Place the sculpture on a dark mahogany sideboard, a marble mantelpiece, or inside a quiet wall alcove to create strong visual contrast. Highlighting the silhouette against neutral walls or dark foliage enhances its three-dimensional structural form.

Dust the item gently using a dry microfibre cloth or a soft camel-hair brush to clean recessed areas. Avoid applying water, liquid detergents, or chemical solvents to unsealed surfaces, as porous materials absorb moisture and may discolour.
