Vintage Waltham Pocket Watch, 1931

1920 - 1940
Description

Vintage Waltham pocket watch, 1931.

The watch has a grade 610 7-jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and it has the serial number 27,324,599 which dates it back to 1931. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold plated and was made by the Dennison Watch Case Company, an English case manufacturer and supplier to Waltham UK. The case is in lovely condition with general light surface marks, nothing serious at all.

The glass lens is in lovely condition.

The signed dial is in very nice condition too with original blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute track.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (because of GPSR legislation, we no longer post items less than 100 years old to Europe, including Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Waltham Watch Company, founded in Massachusetts in 1850, pioneered the mass production of precision timepiece components in horology. Open-face pocket watches became standard for railway, dress, and military timekeeping throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Pocket watches from the 1930s commonly featured cases made of gold plate, gold-filled brass, or nickel alloy. The dials were crafted from vitreous enamel or painted metal with glass crystals protecting the hands and movement.

Authentic Waltham pocket watches feature brand markings on the dial and movement, along with an engraved serial number on the internal mechanism that can be cross-referenced with production records to verify the exact year of manufacture.

A vintage open-face pocket watch can be worn traditionally in a waistcoat pocket with an attached Albert chain or styled modernly in a suit jacket pocket or denim coin pocket for formal and smart-casual occasions.

Mechanical pocket watches require regular professional servicing every three to five years to clean and lubricate internal gears. Keep the watch in a dry environment and avoid overwinding or exposing it to moisture.
