This Edwardian Arts and Crafts wardrobe is an authentic Ambrose Heal design from the Letchworth range of Heal's furniture, dating from 1900. Built in solid oak with a warm brown timber finish, the piece features through stiles on each corner, flat recessed timber panels, small round turned wooden door handles, and straight square feet. The double-door facade includes applied and moulded panels that are shaped at the top, along with a straight cornice above. Measuring 183 cm in height, 107 cm in width, and 47 cm in depth, the interior provides storage with an open hanging space and an extending clothes rail on one side, paired with solid oak shelving on the other. The original maker's label is inset into one of the doors, alongside the original lock and key, while sweet chestnut neck panels complete the construction. This solid wood wardrobe suits a bedroom or dressing area in an English Country House or traditional home setting.

The Arts and Crafts movement emphasized simple forms, visible construction methods, and the inherent grain of honest materials, rejecting mass production in favour of hand craftsmanship.

Pieces were typically constructed using solid oak, incorporating traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, recessed panels, and turned timber knobs without elaborate surface ornamentation.

Authentic Heal and Son pieces often feature an inlaid or metal makers badge inside a drawer or door frame, alongside hallmark characteristics like clean proportions, straight cornices, and quarter-sawn oak.

Positioning a warm timber wardrobe alongside contemporary neutral wall paints, natural linen bedding, and understated lighting allows the natural grain and structural shape to stand out.

Apply a high-quality clear beeswax polish once or twice a year using a soft cotton cloth, buffing gently along the timber grain while keeping the furniture away from direct heat sources to prevent drying.
