This Victorian mahogany double-ended settee from 1860 exhibits an elegant serpentine form featuring a distinctive shaped back that rises at both ends and dips towards the centre. The upholstery consists of cream fabric patterned with repeating red diamonds, complemented by deep buttoning and decorative braid trim along the edges. Carved scroll arms terminate in warm brown mahogany scroll elements, while turned mahogany front legs and swept rear legs finish in brass castors. The settee measures 87 cm high, 155 cm wide, and 70 cm deep, with a seat height of 46 cm. Positioning this piece within a living room or a formal reception room provides a striking focal point with a classic English country house aesthetic. The double-ended orientation creates a comfortable seating arrangement for social spaces, while the generous upholstery supports relaxed daily use. The combination of exposed warm brown timber and patterned textile integrates easily with traditional interior schemes.

A Victorian double-ended settee is a mid-to-late 19th-century upholstered sofa featuring symmetrical raised ends designed for formal seating and conversation in drawing rooms.

These settees typically feature solid hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood for the exposed frame, steel coil springs, horsehair padding, and hand-tufted fabric upholstery.

Authentic 1860s settees feature hand-carved show-frame timber details, deep buttoned upholstery, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and original brass castors on turned legs.

Position the settee as a focal feature in a living space or hallway, pairing it with contemporary lighting, neutral walls, and modern textured cushions to complement historical elements.

Keep the settee away from direct sunlight and radiators, clean the fabric using a soft brush attachment, and condition the exposed mahogany frame using natural beeswax.
