This folk art chest of drawers originates from the 1930 period and has a pine construction with a painted blue finish. The piece takes the form of a chest of drawers measuring 123 cm in width, 52 cm in depth, and 70 cm in height. It has white painted elephant motifs, turned side pilasters, and dark metal knob handles, alongside geometric borders and rectangular framing mouldings. The surface shows a hand-painted treatment with visible distressing and colour variation in the blue paint. Originally commissioned by a film director, two matching units are available for purchase. In a contemporary home, this chest of drawers functions well in a bedroom, hallway, or living room for storage purposes. The piece suits eclectic, boho, or bohemian interior settings, where the vibrant blue colour and decorative animal motifs add visual interest. It offers a practical storage surface combined with folk art decoration, making it suitable for daily household use.

FAQs

Painted pine furniture from folk traditions often features hand-applied decorative motifs, vibrant background colours, and simple joinery techniques designed for functional domestic use.

Traditional painted chests typically feature solid softwood framing, dovetail or mortise and tenon joinery, fitted drawers with turned or metal knobs, and hand-painted surface finishes.

Authentic pieces display organic variations in brushwork, genuine wear patterns along handles and edges, original joinery inside drawer boxes, and natural patina beneath the paint finish.

A painted blue chest serves as a focal point in neutral rooms, anchoring bedrooms or hallways alongside contemporary artwork and natural woven textures.

Clean hand-painted surfaces with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or excess moisture that could damage the painted decorative detailing.
