This Impressionist oil painting on canvas mounted on board dates from the first half of the 20th century, specifically the year 1950. The artwork depicts a floral arrangement of white daffodils and blue irises contained within a dark blue ceramic vase, set against a muted background with visible brushwork. The painting is mounted in a simple wooden frame with a slip and measures 72 x 62 cm. Suitable for placement in an English country house interior, this piece functions well when displayed above a sideboard in a dining room or living area. The visible palette incorporates shades of blue, yellow, and white, showing a dark surface underneath the vase and textured details throughout the composition.

FAQs

Impressionist floral still life paintings focus on capturing natural light, spontaneous movement, and transient subject matter using visible, textured brushstrokes and a varied colour palette.

Traditional oil paintings were created using ground pigments mixed with drying oils, such as linseed oil, applied onto stretched linen or cotton canvas, wood panels, or artist board.

Experts evaluate surface craquelure patterns, stretcher bar construction, age-related oxidisation on canvas or wood backing, and signature consistency under ultraviolet light.

An antique floral painting can be hung above a sideboard, placed on a mantelpiece, or integrated into a modern gallery wall to introduce texture and colour contrast.

Paintings should be kept away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity, with surface dust removed gently using a dry, soft-bristled brush rather than liquid cleaners.
