Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian Revival dressing table dates from 1900 and originates from the workshop of Waring and Gillow. Constructed from wood with a sage green painted finish, the piece includes an integrated central shield-shaped mirror flanked by scroll-form metal sconces and raised side trinket boxes. Additional storage comprises a series of drawers fitted with silver-plated drop handles and mounts, each bearing a maker's stamp. The base incorporates tapering square-section legs joined by a shaped kneehole shelf, while reeded mouldings decorate the frieze and supports. Practical dimensions stand at 160 cm high, 146 cm wide, and 58 cm deep, with a knee height of 58 cm. Suitable for placement in a bedroom or dressing room, this freestanding vanity table provides practical surface space alongside enclosed storage for everyday accessories. The neutral green paint finish adapts easily to various interior schemes, complementing both traditional and contemporary bedroom furnishings.

FAQs

Edwardian dressing tables typically feature lighter proportions than their Victorian predecessors, incorporating neoclassical motifs, delicate tapered legs, and integrated swivel mirrors. Painted finishes became fashionable during this period to create brighter, airy bedroom schemes.

These pieces were crafted using solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or birch, joined with dovetailed drawer joints and finished with hand-applied paint, leaded glass mirrors, and cast brass or plated steel fittings.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed secondary timbers on drawer bottoms, natural wear to drawer runners, and original lock mechanisms or brass hardware with light oxidisation.

Position the dressing table against a neutral backdrop to highlight its silhouette, and pair it with a contemporary velvet stool or minimalist table lamp to create a balanced blend of traditional craft and modern design.

Wipe painted surfaces gently using a soft microfibre cloth lightly dampened with clean water. Avoid abrasive chemical cleaners, solvents, or excess moisture that could strip or compromise historical paint layers.
