Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Louis Philippe style furniture originated in France during the reign of King Louis Philippe (18301848). It is characterised by clean lines, rounded corners, soft ogee mouldings, unadorned plinth bases, and the prominent use of rich timber veneers such as walnut, mahogany, and rosewood.

Authentic French commodes from this era typically feature a solid timber frame layered with decorative fruitwood or walnut veneers, topped with heavy natural stone or marble slabs, such as Saint Anne grey marble, and finished with cast brass escutcheons.

Look for a concealed upper drawer integrated into the ogee moulding directly below the marble top, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, a flat plinth base set on simple bracket or block feet, and bookmatched timber veneers across the drawer fronts.

Position the piece as a focal point in an entry hallway, dining room, or bedroom. Contrast the warm walnut wood grain and natural stone top against contemporary neutral walls, pairing it with minimalist lighting or modern artwork.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax sparingly along the wood grain to maintain hydration. Wipe marble tops immediately if exposed to liquids, avoiding acidic cleaners that can etch natural stone.
