Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1930 French Bergère two-seater sofa combines a traditional wooden frame with woven cane panels on the sides and back. The dark polished timber frame displays carved claw-and-ball feet and curved armrests. Deep cushioned seating and matching back pillows are upholstered in a light cream textured fabric with new, unused loose covers. Measuring 140 cm in length, 80 cm in height, and 75 cm in depth, the piece provides comfortable seating for two people. Position this compact sofa in a living room, study, or drawing room to serve as a practical seating option or a decorative focal point. The neutral tones of the fabric complement various interior colour schemes, while the classic frame design pairs easily with both antique and contemporary furnishings in a residential setting.

FAQs

A French Bergere sofa is an upholstered settee featuring an exposed carved timber frame with enclosed armrests, originating in eighteenth-century France.

These sofas feature a solid timber frame, woven cane side panels, and removable fabric or velvet cushions over a sprung or webbed seat base.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved hardwood frames, traditional joinery, double-walled woven cane work, and classic leg forms such as cabriole or ball-and-claw feet.

Position the sofa alongside clean-lined contemporary side tables or neutral linen drapery to balance detailed timber carving with modern interior elements.

Keep the sofa away from direct heat sources to prevent the natural cane from drying out, vacuum fabric cushions gently with a soft brush attachment, and wax exposed timber periodically.
