This Victorian period bed frame dates from 1890 and is designed in an English country house style. The construction combines iron and brass components finished in an antique green verdigris tone paired with polished gold-coloured metal elements, including spherical finials at each corner, curved top rails, and vertical central spindles connected by cast iron joints. Ornate castings detail the frame structures at the corners and base level. Suitable for use in a primary bedroom or guest suite, this king-size bedstead accommodates a 150 cm wide UK king-size mattress and base set. The dimensions measure 165 cm in height, 216 cm in length, and 152 cm in width, providing a central sleeping platform for daily domestic use.

FAQs

Victorian iron and brass bedsteads gained popularity during the nineteenth century, combining sturdy cast or wrought iron frames with decorative brass top rails, spindles, and finials for structural strength and ornamental detail.

Traditional metal bedsteads were constructed using iron tubing and rods joined with cast iron fittings, supplemented by polished brass rails, knobs, and decorative vertical spindles.

Authentic nineteenth-century metal beds feature heavy cast iron joints known as chill casts, hand-wrought iron tubing, threaded brass finials, and original maker stamps on the frame rails.

Pair a painted metal bedstead with neutral cotton or linen bedding, botanical textiles, and polished timber floors to complement traditional English country or period interior schemes.

Dust painted metal surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth and polish brass components with a specialized metal cleaner to remove oxidisation and protect the lacquered surface.
