Salisbury Antiques Centre has dated this Victorian Mahogany Wellington Chest to the 1850s.
The drawers are enclosed by the characteristic hinged locking pilasters, the right-hand pilaster fitted with a lock, allowing all the drawers to be secured simultaneously.

The rectangular moulded top sits above a simple architectural case, raised on a projecting plinth base. The mahogany has developed a rich, mellow colour, with attractive figuring particularly evident to the sides.

Wellington chests were designed to provide substantial storage while occupying relatively little floor space, making this a particularly practical piece for a bedroom, study or drawing room.
In good antique condition with expected marks, knocks and wear commensurate with age and use, all contributing to its character.
English, circa 1850.
